This private institution is dedicated to providing nursing students with a quality education that prepares them to meet the unique challenges inherent in today’s hospitals, clinics, and doctor’s offices. The campus is located centrally in Denver, convenient to a number of restaurants, shops and services. Students may take courses in either the main building or the annex. Classrooms and laboratories are located in the main building, while students gain clinical experience in the annex. Additional clinical experiences are gained in medical facilities throughout the Denver region.
The main building contains a Learning Resource Center that houses a wealth of technology aimed at keeping students connected and informed. The college also has a simulation lab complete with high fidelity mannequins and replicated patient rooms designed to give students a realistic experience. Nursing labs at the school provide the latest in cutting edge technology and traditional equipment, such as microscopes, EKG machines, blood pressure cuffs, and surgical instruments.
The Denver School of Nursing provides a number of Associate Degree and Bachelor Degree options. Students who have already earned college credits may be best suited to enter the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion Program. Usually finished within about 21 months, this program allows the student to transfer credits from another approved institution. The curriculum in this program focuses on nursing skills, knowledge, and experience, and results in a Bachelor of Science degree. Graduates are also qualified to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for RNs.
Students without prior college credits typically enter the Bachelor of Science in nursing program and must complete a total of 197 credits. Over approximately 13 quarters, the student completes general education and nursing education requirements in order to earn a Bachelor of Science degree and be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for RNs.
Students at the Denver School of Nursing have similar options at the Associate Degree level. Students with prior college credit may select the completion program, while students who have not attended college before may opt for the full Associate Degree program. The nursing coursework is virtually identical to that which is performed in pursuit of the Bachelor Degree. The main difference is that the general education requirements do not exist for Associate Degree program. These programs obviously allow for quicker completion of educational requirements and the ability to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for RNs at an earlier date. Students have the option of returning to complete a Bachelor Degree at a later time if they so choose.
The Denver School of Nursing utilizes a competitive process for admission of students. This involves components like filling out application paperwork and paying initial fees. Students may also be required to take pre-admission tests that measure their aptitude in English, mathematics, and science. Students must meet with an admissions representative prior to scheduling these tests and may re-take these examinations in order to improve their scores.
