Since 1945, the Helene Fuld School of Nursing has been a focal point in the Harlem Community. In a one year, full time program, a licensed practical nurse can complete an Associate Degree in Nursing. If attending school full time is not possible for the student, part time attendance options are also available. Class schedules are flexible, beginning at 8:00 in the morning and continuing throughout the day until 9:00 in the evening.

Before attending the Helene Fuld School of Nursing, each student must already be a licensed practical nurse. This makes the path to earning an Associate in Applied Science degree a much quicker process. All necessary courses may be taken at the campus in Harlem, whether they are nursing specific courses or requirements for general education. Students who would like to continue on to earn a bachelor degree at another school can generally transfer their education from Helene Fuld to any other accredited institution. Students attend clinical classes and experiences at one of the many health care institutions in New York City, which provides rich and diverse opportunities.
In order to gain admission, students must be able to demonstrate that they have graduated from a United States high school or achieved an equivalency. They must also hold a current LPN license and registration from a jurisdiction in the United States. A qualified candidate will have worked as an LPN for at least one year and will be able to successfully complete the pre-admission tests required by the school. Three professional or educational references must be provided with application paperwork, and all prospective students will be interviewed by Helene Fuld staff prior to admission.
To graduate from the Helene Fuld School of Nursing, students will typically complete 78 credit hours of work. Completion of the Associate in Applied Science degree qualifies students to take the National Council of State Boards of Nursing – RN examination which will give them the necessary licensure they need to practice. Within just four ten-week quarters, the student can be qualified for their licensure exam and well on their way to employment as an RN.
Many RNs return to Helene Fuld to supplement their education throughout their career. Continuing education programs are designed to allow students to update their knowledge to keep pace with technological innovation and research advancements. Some of these workshops are only one day in length and provide valuable and useful knowledge.
