The school has a number of degree programs available for students that are on undergraduate and graduate levels.
Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing
This program is available through the campuses of Oakland, San Mateo, San Francisco and Sacramento. If you have a Bachelor’s Degree in a field other than nursing, this program of intensive study will provide you with your degree in a twelve-month period.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
If you would be enrolling in this program as a freshman, you can submit your application through a pre-nursing partnership program at Mills College, which is for women only, Holy Names University or Saint Mary’s College of California. Transfer students can be admitted from other colleges for a limited time in the spring and fall. Admission will take place as a junior; studies will be completed in four semesters.
Entry Level Master of Science
If you have achieved a baccalaureate in another field and would like to change careers, this degree program may be a good option. You will have the opportunity to develop very strong clinical skills and may choose either Case Management or Family Nurse Practitioner. With the Case Management option, the program will require seven semesters to complete and requires students to be fulltime. The Family Nurse Practitioner program will prepare students to provide quality care to patients throughout their lifetime, with a focus on the prevention of disease, promoting and maintaining health, and managing various health problems.
Master of Science in a Post-Professional Capacity
This program is geared to experienced nurses who would like to gain additional knowledge pertaining to Case Management, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or Family Nurse Practitioner.
The Case Management option focuses on health care cases for patients in various situations, such as low income. Students will be instructed in critical thinking and making decisions that will take into consideration the continuous changes in healthcare. The program is for fulltime students and will require five semesters to complete. Students may also be interested in enrolling in the program on a part-time basis.
If you would like to enroll in the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist program, you will learn all of the pertinent aspects regarding administering different forms of anesthesia to patients. Included in this program will be conscious sedation, pain management, radiology procedures and emergency airway management.
The Family Nurse Practitioner program will give you skills that will be very useful in managing the health care issues of your patients. You will have a profound impact on the lives of others, with training that will enable you to handle advanced clinical practices and other healthcare issues on an advanced level. There are approximately 88,000 nurse practitioners in the United States, so you will definitely have many job opportunities upon graduation from this program.
Samuel Merritt School of Nursing will now also be offering a Doctor of Nursing program. With this degree, students will have the skills to develop health care programs that will be beneficial for different regions as well as being economically sound. They will evaluate clinical findings and have a strong impact on a number of healthcare issues.
